November Vibe: Thankful

Monday, 13 November 2017 by dancingprincessparties

Hello November! With November arriving, we are feeling the excitement of the Holidays fast approaching… starting with Thanksgiving! Being Thankful and Grateful is important throughout the year, but Thanksgiving gives us the time to come together and celebrate what we are thankful for! We thought about all the Princess Characters in our library, and the one that we thought fit with our November Vibe: Thankful the most, was Classic Belle! Classic Belle sacrificed her freedom to save her father and was thankful that the Beast didn’t keep her locked in the dungeon. During “Be our Guest” the enchanted objects served her a marvelous feast – similar to one we may have on Thanksgiving. She was also thankful for all the Beast gave her while in his care and she grew to love him. We are excited to feature this Classic Beauty in our November Vibe: Thankful Post!

November Vibe: Thankful

Pin-spiration

If you’re planning a November Themed party, we recommend a “Be our Guest!” inspired party from Beauty and the Beast! We love Pinterest and wanted to share with you some Pin-spiration for your next “Be our Guest!” inspired party! We even found this pin with the full “Be our Guest!” list of recipes! How about this adorable “Be our Guest!” Dinner Party! Or have you considered a “Be our Guest” inspired Breakfast Soiree? Don’t forget, our Classic Belle would love to entertain you at any of your “Be our Guest” inspired parties! In fact, she would be truly thankful!

Thanksgiving

You’re probably gearing up for your annual Thanksgiving feasts. On our list of recipes, we have our turkey, ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potato hash, green bean casserole, butternut squash soup, apple bacon salad, pumpkin pie, pecan pie, cranberry sauce, and more! What was on the menu of the first Thanksgiving feast that happened in November of 1621? Records show that the Colony governor sent men on a “fowling” mission. Turkey was a common fowl in the region, but it is not known if turkey was in fact the fowl that was eaten on that first Thanksgiving. What is known, is that fish and shellfish made up the majority of the first Thanksgiving meal, which is uncommon in modern time. What was absent at the time was potatoes – it wasn’t popular among the colonists and they did not bring any potatoes on the Mayflower. Also in November 1621, the colonists celebrated their first autumn harvest. They most likely ate the newly grown fruits and vegetables from that first harvest which likely included onions, beans, lettuce, spinach, cabbage, carrots and perhaps peas. Corn may have also been served but in the form of a porridge. Fruits consumed may have included blueberries, plums, grapes, gooseberries, raspberries and cranberries. What about pumpkin pie? While the colonists and Wampanoag tribe ate pumpkins and squash- they didn’t have butter or wheat to make the pie crust.

Obviously all of the food we eat today at Thanksgiving, is much different than what Belle ate at the Beast’s Castle when the enchanted objects served her the great feast…that’s because it all took place in France! If Belle were to celebrate a Thanksgiving meal (which would also be unlikely since France is not a country that celebrates a Thanksgiving). She would eat beef ragout, cheese soufflé, pie and pudding en flambé as the song mentions! She’d also probably enjoy duck or pork over a turkey, she may even have a Foie Gras. Snails, sardines, olives, mushrooms, chestnuts, and beans might be popular side dishes. She would probably use a mustard or a simple oil and vinegar as sauce. For dessert, she’d probably enjoy truffles, pâtes de fruit, nougats or even bonbons.

You can witness for yourself what a French Thanksgiving may look like by joining Dancing Princess Parties for Belle’s Enchanted Tea Party. We hope you’ll “Be our Guest” for this enchanting and magical Tea Party which we host each year in November!

Beauty and the Beast Dance Party at Home!

At Dancing Princess Parties we focus on the Dancing. Our Princesses can’t resist moving their feet when they hear a familiar tune. Classic Belle loves to twirl to is “Tale as Old as Time” while performing her favorite dance move…the princess twirl. She invites you to be her guest at your next party! We’ve also put together a Spotify Playlist complete with the many versions of Beauty and the Beast music from the original film, the Broadway Musical and the newest live action movie soundtrack. We’ve also added some of our favorite Thanksgiving songs we use in our Dance Exploration classes.

Belle’s Enchanted Tea Party

Classic Belle is the host of this Tea Party celebrating Thankfulness! Be her guest as she takes you on an enchanted adventure. Belle begins her adventure by reading her story. She loves reading and can’t wait to share her story with you. Next Belle will teach you a dance to the song “Be Our Guest!” After dancing, Belle will take you on a step by step guide on how to make your own Magic Mirror! After craft time, Belle hosts an enchanted tea party full of French delicacies such as quiches, croissants, chocolate truffle, petite fours, and madeleines. Prior to guests departing Belle poses for a photo that guests can cherish as a keepsake.

We hope you will join us for Belle’s Enchanted Tea Party –  Space is Limited.

October Vibe: Pumpkins

Monday, 23 October 2017 by dancingprincessparties

October is here, which means Fall is officially underway! Pumpkin Spice Day, National Pumpkin Pie Day, National Pumpkin Day and Halloween all happen in October giving us a serious Pumpkin Vibe! One of our Princesses that loves pumpkins is Classic Cinderella! Read all about Cinderella and our Pumpkin Vibes!

October Vibe: Pumpkin

Pin-spiration

Classic Cinderella loves her pumpkins thanks to her Fairy God Mother! With a little “Bippity Boppity Boo!” Cinderella’s Pumpkin turns into a beautiful Carriage! If you have an October birthday celebration and would love to combine a little bit of October and a little bit of Disney, why not throw a Cinderella’s Magic Pumpkin Birthday party? If you love Pinterest as much as we do, here’s a little Pin-Spiration for your next October Party! Don’t forget to invite Classic Cinderella to bring an added bit of wonderment and whimsy!

Cinderella dances with her magic pumpkin.

Halloween

For most of us, our schools may celebrate Halloween with an in-class Halloween party or an ever popular trunk or treat event!  Have you ever wondered where trick or treating started? It began in the Middle-Ages, when children and sometimes poor adults would dress up in demonic costumes (as a way to trick evil spirits) and go around door to door during Hallowmas begging for food or money in exchange for songs and prayers. Now a days we dress up in costumes and ask for candy. Did you know, you could invite Classic Cinderella to your Halloween Celebration with a Bobbity-Boo Package! These short visits allow our Princesses to Pop-in and visit your classroom for a short 20-30 minute visit. She will bring with her some pumpkin treats for you and your classmates to enjoy! We can’t think of a more magical way to celebrate Halloween!

Dancing Pumpkin Fun

We love dancing here at Dancing Princess Parties and our Classic Cinderella is no exception! In fact, when she throws a party, she will dance to the song “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes.” Cinderella will also bring her own pumpkin and will challenge all of her party guests to turn the pumpkin into a carriage by following along to a “Bippitby Boppity Boo!” dance. One of Cinderella’s favorite moves is the Pumpkin Plié. You hold your hands like you’re making a pumpkin and then bend your knees. Want to have a little dancing fun at home? We’ve created a Pumpkin Vibe Playlist on Spotify of our favorite Cinderella and Pumpkin tunes!

National Pumpkin Day

October 26th 2017 is National Pumpkin Day and we cannot wait to celebrate with our 2nd Annual Cinderella’s Magic Pumpkin Tea Party! The celebration will begin with Cinderella story time. She is so excited to share how she came to know her Prince with the help of a Pumpkin and her Fairy God Mother. After Story Time, the Cinderella will teach a princess ballet dance to “A Dream is a Wish your Heart Makes.” After dancing, Cinderella helps the little princes and princesses and Queen Mothers and King Fathers make a glittery pumpkin craft to take home. After craft time is over, it will be time for a Tea Party spiced with pumpkins! Guests will enjoy pumpkin scones, pumpkin snaps, pumpkin cupcakes and more! Before the tea party ends, Cinderella will take lovely portraits as a wonderful keepsake of the Magic.

We hope you will join us for National Pumpkin Day Celebrations at Cinderella’s Magic Pumpkin Tea Party! Space is Limited.

September Vibe: Apples

Friday, 08 September 2017 by dancingprincessparties

September is here, which means it’s time to celebrate the changing of the seasons. Back to School, Fall Colors, and Sugar and Spice, September gives us some serious Apple Vibes and who better to celebrate apples than our Featured Princess: Princess White as Snow! We are sharing our favorite Apple Vibes below!

September Vibe: Apples

Pin-spiration

We know the Princess White as Snow loves her apples! If you’re thinking of throwing a September themed Princess Party we’d suggest having the Princess White as Snow host, if you’re considering hiring a character. Princess White as Snow is inspired by Disney’s beloved tale “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” We have pinned some of our favorite “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” themed parties and activities to help you plan your Princess White as Snow themed September party. Enjoy the Pin-spiration!

Dancing Princess Parties- Princess White as Snow

Back to School

For most of us, we start school at the end of August or the beginning of September and that also means bringing an apple to give to your teacher! Do you know where this tradition started? It actually began in the 1700’s when poor children in Denmark and Sweden paid their teachers for their education with potatoes or apples from their farm. Potatoes were a staple for meals while apples were used for making drinks. Did you know, you could thank your teacher AND surprise your class by requesting the Princess White as Snow personally deliver an apple to your teacher? Just book one of our *New* Bobbity-Boo Packages and schedule a classroom visit.

Dancing Princess Fun

We love dancing here at Dancing Princess Parties and our Princess White as Snow is no exception! In fact, when she throws a party, she will dance a slow and graceful ballet to the song “Someday my Prince will Come,” and then she’ll enjoy skipping and twirling about to “Whistle While you Work,” and finally she may be seen dancing a jig to the “Silly Song!” Want to get in on the fun? We’ve created a September Vibe playlist on Spotify dedicated to Princess White as Snow and you’ll notice a few fun Apple songs that you can sing and dance along to at home.

National Apple Day

September 16th 2017 is National Apple Day and we cannot wait to celebrate all things “Apple” with the Princess White as Snow at her very own Tea Party Celebration! The celebration will begin with the Princess White as Snow story time. She is so excited to read her story of how she came to know the Seven Dwarfs and find her Prince and how they lived happily ever after. After Story Time, the Princess White as Snow will teach a beautiful and graceful dance to the song “Someday my Prince Will Come.” After dancing, the Princess White as Snow will help the little princes and princesses and Queen Mothers and King Fathers make an apple craft to take home. After craft time is over, it will be time for an Apple Feast! Party guests will enjoy sipping on apple cider, eating apple pie, apple scones, apple strudel, apple soufflé and more! Before the tea party ends, the Princess White as Snow will take lovely portraits as a wonderful keepsake of the Magic.

We hope you will join us at the National Apple Day Tea Party Celebration with the Princess White as Snow! Space is Limited.

Beauty and the Beast Before Disney!

Friday, 11 August 2017 by dancingprincessparties

Dancing Princess Parties is excited to introduce our Fairy Tale Friday Featured Princess Post! This week is focused on Classic Belle! Our Classic Belle recently had a face lift! She now has a beautiful new upgraded dress and she cannot wait to Be a Guest at your next party! But before Belle stole our heart’s in Disney’s 1991 animated film, she graced the pages of story books…like the ones she loves to read.

Beauty and the Beast Before Disney

The original french fairy tale known as La Belle (the beauty) et la Bête (and the beast) was written in 1740 Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve. Her version was very long, so it was shortened and re-written in 1756 by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont.

In the original plot Beauty’s father (as she was called) was a widower merchant who had six children, three boys and three girls. His daughters are very beautiful, especially the youngest, Beauty, is the loveliest, kindest and most pure of heart. Her sisters, however, are wicked, selfish, vain, and spoiled.

Beauty’s father was very rich, and they spent most of their life in a mansion.  One day, however, he loses his wealth unexpectedly when a storm at sea sinks his fleet of ships; forcing him and his family to move and work on a farm.

Beauty’s father learns that one of his ships survived the storm and he is eager to regain some of his trade. As he leaves on his mission he inquires of his children what gifts he should bring home. His sons ask for weaponry and horses to hunt with,  and his oldest daughters ask for the richest and finest clothing and jewels. Beauty asks simply for a rose, since they do not grow where they live.

Beauty’s father heads off to the ship only to discover that the ship’s cargo has been seized in exchange for his debts. He realizes that he is without any wealth and will not be able to fulfill the wishes of his children.

Distraught, Beauty’s father becomes lost during a storm while on his way home. He stumbles across a large palace and seeks shelter. He finds a lavish interior complete with a dining room and a lavish dinner set out. He eats and decides to spend the night. The next morning, feeling refreshed, he begins his journey home when he discovers a beautiful rose garden.  He decides to pick that largest and prettiest rose fit for Beauty.  As soon as he picks the rose he is suddenly face to face with a hideous “Beast”. The beast tells him the rose is his most precious possession. How dare he pick it after the Beast’s hospitality. The only punishment is death.

Beauty’s father explains why he picked the rose and begs the beast to be allowed to give the gift to his daughter. Upon hearing this, the beast agrees to let Beauty’s father go in exchange for one of his daughters in his place. Unwillingly Beauty’s father agrees with this bargain. The Beast also gives Beauty’s father the gifts for the rest of his sons and daughters and sends him on his way.

When he returns home, he informs his children of the deal with the Beast. After much debate, Beauty agrees to go to the castle. The Beast welcomes her and informs her that she is now mistress of the castle, and he is her servant. He provides Beauty with the finest gifts, food and hospitality. Beauty and the Beast build a friendship which results in the Beast asking her to marry him every night, but every night she refuses as she only sees him as a friend. Each night after refusing the Beast’s proposal Beauty dreams of a handsome prince who asks her why she will not marry the Beast. She is convinced the Beast has the Prince as a prisoner.  She searches the castle for the Prince but cannot find him.

Dancing Princess Parties’ Classic Belle

Beauty begins to grow homesick after several months in the castle. She asks Beast if she can go home to visit her family. He allows Beauty to leave on the condition that she returns exactly a week later. The Beast gives Beauty an enchanted mirror and ring. The mirror allows her to see what is going on back at the Beast’s castle, and the ring allows her to return to the castle in an instant when turned three times around her finger.

Beauty returns home. Her older sisters become jealous to see her well fed and wearing extravagant dresses. Beauty offers to share with her sisters, but everything they touch turns into rags. As soon as Beauty takes the gifts back they are restored. That is because the Beast intended them for Beauty alone. The sisters are so jealous, they decide to trick Beauty into staying longer than the week that she promised the Beast. They hoped he would be so angry that he would eat her when she returned. Beauty agreed to stay. But soon, she begins to feel very guilty about breaking her promise. She uses the mirror to see the Beast. She is shocked and dismayed to discover the Beast, nearly dead, from a broken heart. She leaves immediately to return back to the castle.

Beauty finds the Beast and begins sobbing. She is sorry she broke her promise. She lets the Beast know how much she loves him. When her tears touch him, he suddenly transforms into the Prince that Beauty had dreamed about. Beauty asks how this is possible. The Princess explains about a fairy that had visited him long ago. He refused to give her shelter from the rain and as a curse for  his heart. The fairy turned him into a Beast until he could find true love, and only then would the spell be broken. The Prince and Beauty are married and they live happily ever after together.

There you have it! The Disney favorite stuck very close to the original story, but added some magical, amusing and enchanted characters along the way. There were no singing Tea Pots or Tale as Old as Times in the original, but we can certainly understand why this Fairy Tale has touched the hearts of so many. Check back soon when for our Beauty and the Beast Onstage Blog where we will take behind the scenes of the live action entertainment of Ballet and Broadway!

Sophia’s Ballerina Birthday Party: Part 1- How to host an In-Home Ballet Party!

Thursday, 03 August 2017 by dancingprincessparties

So you want to throw a Pinterest worthy Ballerina-Themed party for your perfect little Princess Ballerina? Dancing Princess Parties has you covered! We can provide some tips, tricks and thoughts to help you throw the best Ballerina-Themed birthday party in town…a party that will have your fellow mommas calling YOU to help them plan their next birthday party bash! We know, because we’ve thrown our fair share of Ballerina parties…being DANCING Princesses. Our favorite? Sophia’s Ballerina Birthday Extravaganza!

Meet Sophia, our very special Ballerina Birthday girl!

Meet Sophia, the little ballerina that stole our hearts on her fourth birthday. A little princess who loves ballet, everything pink and tutus! We are so excited to take you into her birthday party and share with you some tips on throwing a Ballerina Bash that will have your fellow moms begging for deets and feeling inspired…and get those “Pin It” buttons ready…we have lots of Pinterest worthy tips just for YOU!

Do I have to have a Ballerina Themed Birthday Party at a Dance Studio?

No! Sophia is here to show you, that you can have a Ballerina Party ANYWHERE! In fact, we traveled to Sophia’s home and threw the party right in her living and dining room! Our first tip is to find a local birthday party or event planner that is MOBILE…meaning they bring their parties to YOU! Dancing Princess Parties is a mobile traveling entertainment Company in Denver, Colorado- hit up your Google Local Search to find a mobile birthday party company near you!

Do I need to plan any of the games? I’m not a Dance Teacher!

Hopefully, your town has a dance program or birthday party planner that has trained Party Hosts with dance training! Sometimes they may even have characters, like our Ballerina Princess, that you can add on to make your birthday party even more magical! That’s what we do here at Dancing Princess

A Dancing Princess Parties’ hostess arranges her party guests for ballet warm ups.

Parties! You should find a Party Company that employs or contracts  hosts and hostesses with training in dance, acting and voice! This way you can be sure that your birthday party can run smoothly and without a lot of stress or planning on your part! How can you choose the best Birthday Party company in town for your Ballerina Party? Here are some questions you can ask before booking:

  • What kind of training do your party hosts in musical theater, dance and voice training?
  • Are your teachers background checked/fingerprinted?
  • How do you train your hosts to ensure they can lead an hour long party?
  • Are your teachers trained in classroom management and childhood development? What kind of training do they have?
  • What will I need to provide your staff for a successful party?

If the Birthday Party Event Company can’t answer these questions, or they inform you that you need to provide a lot of the materials to make your party happen, our recommendation is to STEER CLEAR and find a provider that makes YOUR job easier! The last thing you want as a busy mom is to spend another $100 on materials to give to a party host that will only be used once! You also want to be sure you can sit back, relax and watch the guests at your party enjoy a ballet class taught by a trained professional! Be sure to ask the question about classroom management…a trained ballerina is NOT automatically equipped to manage a party of 15-20 kids! Now that you know how to pre-screen your birthday party event planner before booking, let’s explore Sophia’s Ballerina Themed Birthday Party by Dancing Princess Parties! We hope you enjoy these ideas and use them to throw your next Ballerina Birthday Ball!

Tips for an at home Ballet Party!

Yes, we know what you’re thinking, my home isn’t a dance studio! How is a teacher supposed to come into my living room and teach a ballet class? Sophia’s home was also not a ballet studio, but it worked! Here are a few tips from our dance teachers here at Dancing Princess Parties to make your at-home ballet party work for you!

  1. Find the best room!

The first step, is to determine which room will work best for your party! Pick the room with the most open space, the least furniture and a floor that will be easy to dance on. We suggest a carpet or hardwood floor over concrete or tile…this way if a dancer slips and falls, they are less likely to get hurt!

  2. Move the Furniture!

Make as much room to dance as possible by moving the furniture. Push it as far back against the walls as possible. We’ve even had some party moms move the furniture out of the room completely! Obviously this is not required!

  3. No Distractions!

Make sure that you remove distractions from the room! Don’t hold your ballet party in the play room with all the toys, kids will be distracted and won’t want to dance! Turn off tv’s and electronics and create a blank slate. Have cakes, presents, and other non-dance games/entertainment in a separate room.

  4. Prep the Room!

Be sure your room has everything your Ballet Party host will need! including a wall outlet for a speaker, a table or counter to leave props, and water!

  5. Observers

We love moms and dads watching the fun! Just be sure there is a separate area for observers so they aren’t in the way of the dancers!

All right, now that you know you CAN host a ballet party anywhere, let’s look inside Sophia’s in-home Princess Ballerina birthday party! These pictures showcase how a party in a small, home space can be arranged with a qualified dance educator who has extensive experience working with kids! Enjoy!

A Peek Inside a Princess Ballerina Birthday Party!

A Dancing Princess Party Hostess leads class on some stretches and warm ups. Ballerinas are known for their limberness, and flexibility.

Stretching can be fun an imaginative…like catching frozen toe and melted toes when Elsa is around!

Next, our Warm Up scarves become a prop to twirl, swirl, sway and whirl!

The Dancing Princess Party Host is great at managing the party and moves the party guests to the side for more ballet dancing fun!

Captivated party guests listening to the dance teacher and ready to learn!

Next the Ballerina Party host teaches the guests a Ballet move called a bourée walk. She teaches the move to everyone first….

The Party Hostess then teaches the guests how to bourée walk individually.

Allowing party guests to perform the dance moves individually allows each guest to shine, and parents a great photo opportunity!

Sophia, the ballerina princess herself, shows off her bourée walk!

Next, our ballet teacher teaches how to do an arabesque!

Now our star of the day, ballerina Sophia shows off her amazing arabesque!

Performing an arabesque is most fun with a fun prop like a purple and pink teddy bear!

Hey! We know that dance move! It’s a passé!

Have we mentioned boys dance too?

Leaping over butterflies!

End the celebration with a little freeze dance! At this ballerina party we added some balloons to make it more fun!
